![]() Larry Cannon is a watercolor artist whose work is focused primarily on the landscapes and seascapes of Northern California. Many of his landscapes are painted en plein air where the subtleties of light and color are inspirations which he uses to infuse the paintings with a unique sense of place and moment. His work has been exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art and in multiple exhibits at the Triton Museum of Art and the Napa Valley Museum. Larry has a strong love for plein air painting - the practice of painting outdoors and completing a painting in a relative short period of time. He has been selected on numerous occasions to participate in prestigious plein air painting events including those in Sonoma Valley, Carmel, Estes Park, and Sedona. And, he has participated in the last three annual Best of Plein Air exhibitions sponsored by the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. He also considers himself fortunate to have been included in other well-respected art exhibitions including those at the California Art Club, the Sausalito Art Festival, the Napa Valley Art Festival and the Marin Art Festival. Larry is self-taught as an artist following Bachelor and Masters of Architecture degrees from the University of Illinois and a distinguished architectural and urban planning career in San Francisco as a principal partner in the firms of Wurster, Bernardi & Emmons and the Cannon Design Group. He is a signature member of the California Watercolor Association (CWA) and the Society of Western Artists (SWA), as well as a Painting Patron member of the California Art Club (CAC), an award winning member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), and a member of the Marin Society of Artists (MSA), Watercolor Artists of Sonoma County (WASCO), and the Marin County Watercolor Society. Continuing workshop studies have included intensive sessions with Joseph Zbukvic, Marilyn Simandle, Charles Reid, Jim Kosvanec, Tom Lynch and Dean St. Clair. In addition to these fine artists, his watercolors are strongly influenced by the great historical figures in watercolor, especially Percy Grey, Sir William Russell Flint, John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer, as well as exceptional contemporary watercolor artists including David Curtis, Trevor Chamberlain, Robert Wade, and Burton Silverman. Larry is represented by Lee Youngman Galleries in Calistoga (Napa Valley), California. |
